The ‘80s Pop-up Bar
The Headroom is a 1980’s-themed party pop-up in Vancouver, BC. We take over a venue for one night and transform it into a time capsule for everyone’s favourite decade - including the most tubular tunes, decorations, ridiculous lighting, toys, games, costumes, and prizes. Plus -of course- we take all the bogus and forgotten “classic” cocktails from this era and reimagine them using the best spirits, hand-made shrubs, syrups, foams, infusions, and fresh, hand-squeezed juices.
Rhett Williams
Despite a background in both music and chemistry, Rhett fell into writing about cocktail history online for years before actually bartending. Over the last decade he managed a handful of Vancouver bars including Pourhouse, Nightingale, The Shameful Tiki Room, The Dark Manor, Anh & Chi, and opened Laowai before inexplicably getting thrown back to the 1950’s when a science experiment by his best friend, Doc Brown, went awry. There he encountered his parents as high school kids and had to ensure they fell in love or he would cease to exist altogether - AND then make it back to the present time in order to save Doc!
Chris Kelley
Before Chris racked up almost two decades of service and bartending experience including The Oakwood, Black & Blue, Nightingale, Chambar and Laowai, plus winning the Key West Cocktail Classic from Stoli vodka, he was an outcast at his high school in rural Texas. He only hung out with his boss at the record store where he worked and his quirky classmate, Duckie (who had a major crush on him). When Blane - one of the rich and popular kids at school - asked him out, it seemed too good to be true. As he started to fall for Blane, Chris began to realize that dating someone from a different social sphere is not easy!
Chad Rivard
After years of cutting his teeth in his hometown of Edmonton at a handful of bars, Chad moved to Vancouver with his mother Lucille where he continued to hone his craft behind the wood of The Acorn, The Shameful Tiki Room, Odd Society, Straight & Marrow, and The Diamond. Unfortunately, he quickly found himself the target of a group of bullies who study karate at the Cobra Kai dojo, but did manage to meet and befriend his mentor, Mr. Miyagi - an unassuming repairman who just happens to be a martial arts master. Chad continues to train in Miyagi’s compassionate form of karate as he prepares to compete against the brutal Cobra Kai at the All-Valley Championships!
